Avantishvara Temple, Avantipur

Avantishvara Temple, the smaller of the two great ruined Utpala dynasty temples at Avantipur (9th century CE), is dedicated to Lord Shiva and features a beautifully preserved Kashmiri Nagara stone shrine within a rectangular colonnaded courtyard. King Avantivarman himself ordered both this temple and the nearby Avantiswami Vishnu temple, together creating one of Kashmir's grandest pre-Islamic architectural ensembles along the banks of the Jhelum River.
