Attukal Bhagavathy Temple

Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram is often called the "Sabarimala of Women" and holds a Guinness World Record for hosting the largest gathering of women at a single religious event. The Attukal Pongala festival, held in February/March, sees over three million women cooking the ritual pongala (sweet rice) offering simultaneously across the streets surrounding the temple.

The presiding deity, Attukal Amma, is worshipped as a form of Kannaki (the heroine of the Tamil epic Silappatikaram). The temple's architecture is in the traditional Kerala style, with a distinctive copper-clad roof and a large vilakkumadom. Despite being relatively young compared to other famous Kerala shrines, its cultural impact is enormous.
