The Achyutaraya Temple (originally Tiruvengalanatha Temple) was built in 1534 during the reign of Achyuta Deva Raya. It is situated in a valley flanked by the Matanga and Gandhamadana hills.
It was one of the last great temple complexes built in the Vijayanagara capital before its destruction. The temple is approached by a magnificent colonnaded street that once served as a bustling market.
